Beginner Lyrical and Beg/Adv Beg Contemporary
Alena commenced dance training at the age of three. She has trained in a variety of styles including contemporary, under the guidance of Marissa Yeo, lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop and musical theatre. Alena has also trained in RAD ballet and successfully completed her Intermediate level examination.
In 2017, Alena graduated from UNSW with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Dance Studies and a Bachelor of Education. Upon commencing her studies in 2014, Alena was awarded the St George Association Scholarship and Tertiary Undergraduate Award in Dance. During her time at UNSW, Alena studied dance theory and body practices while engaging in movement research that explored and challenged traditions in dance. She studied under active industry professionals including Carlee Mellow, Catherine Goss, Erin Brannigan, Jane McKernan, Lisa Griffiths, Lizzie Thomson and Nalina Wait. Alena was also a member of the UNSW Dance Company and performed in the ‘Move’ and ‘Moving On’ showcases.
Alena has previously worked as a performer with RegProm Marketing and Promotions and with the Australian Classical Youth Ballet in a production of ‘Mary Poppins’. Alena has danced as a soloist and in teams, participating in a variety of competitions including the Sydney Eisteddfod ‘Dance of Champions’, the Showcase National Dance Championships in the ‘Battle of the Stars’, and in the ‘Short + Sweet Dance’ and the ‘Fast + Fresh Dance’ choreographic festivals.
Alena endeavours to continues her training, recently taking classes at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre in New York and Sydney Dance Company. She is passionate about the study of dance as an artform and looks forward to sharing her passions at the Hills Adult Dance.
